Companies and ventures in which PREVI participates
Sustainability and socio-environmental responsibility in the strategy of ventures in which PREVI participates
The near totality of the undertakings surveyed counts with strategic planning procedures formally institutionalized and approved by the Administration Boards. A substantial part of those outfits has already addressed sustainability aspects to those procedures, defining objectives, indicators and goals with a view of following up their performance in different dimensions related to sustainability and socio-environmental responsibility.
Despite that, only 63 % of the outfits count with sustainability or corporate responsibility committees formally established. A few count with temporary committees when executing large projects, as a means of following up the management of the main socio-environmental impacts and its effects, as well as to warrant obedience to legal requirements.
In most cases, those committees count with the participation of executive-directors from several areas of the company, appointed to work in issues related to their internal public, the environment, public relations with the community, value chain, moral standings, brand identity, communication and transparency. The main attributions of the committees, among others, are the proposition of strategies and corporate directions vis-ŕ-vis sustainability, the definition of goals, the monitoring of operations, the appraisal of results, and the publication of the activities carried out.
Around 67 % of the companies surveyed in which PREVI participates, have directorates or managers specifically dedicated to sustainability reporting directly to the highest echelons of the administration.
In order to give more consistency to the initiatives being developed and to align them with the directions already legitimated by the market, several companies in which PREVI has invested underwent an appraisal of their sustainability indices in the stock exchanges in which they are traded.
The "Índice de Sustentabilidade Empresarial" SISE (Corporate Sustainability Index), created in 2005 by Bovespa is the sustainability index more often used among the companies in which PREVI invests: 13 outfits (43 %) are listed in it. ISE is used as reference in relation to the stock performance of companies which stand out in social responsibility and long term sustainability.
As to the international index Dow Jones Sustainability Index, created in 1999 at the New York Stock Exchange, it includes four (13 %) of the companies surveyed. That index is composed by 10 % of the best classified companies in terms of corporative sustainability in the group that composes the Dow Jones Global Index, and comprehends - likewise the ISE - several economic sectors.
